As a parent, one of the most rewarding experiences is seeing your child progress and succeed in their learning journey. Today, I want to share a heartwarming story about how I helped my daughter improve her fluency with CVC words through a simple yet effective DIY memory match game.

Recognizing the Need for Help

Like many parents, I noticed that my daughter was facing some challenges with her fluency and automaticity when it came to reading CVC words. CVC words, which are words that consist of a consonant, a vowel, and another consonant like "cat," were causing her to struggle with blending sounds and reading smoothly.

The Birth of a Fun Learning Game

To address this challenge, I decided to create a fun and interactive game that would not only help my daughter recognize CVC words quickly but also make the learning process enjoyable for her. Inspired by the classic memory match game that I loved as a child, I created pairs of CVC word cards with corresponding pictures to reinforce her ability to recognize and read these words effortlessly.

Gameplay and Learning

The gameplay was simple yet effective. By laying out all the cards face down and finding matching pairs by flipping over two cards at a time, my daughter not only had fun but also practiced repetition, which is vital for building fluency and automaticity in reading. The game was adjustable to match her pace and skill level, allowing us to gradually increase the difficulty as she improved.

Remarkable Results

The impact of this memory matching game on my daughter's fluency was truly remarkable. Not only did she start recognizing CVC words more quickly, but her overall reading fluency saw a significant boost. The hands-on and interactive approach proved to be a game-changer in her learning journey.
